Doris E. Jacobs, age 93, of Mount Vernon, passed away on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at The Ohio Eastern Star Home.
She was born on December 13, 1923 in Mount Vernon and was the daughter of the late Harry and Julia (Bell) Brown.
Doris worked in Akron at Goodyear Aircraft after high school. In 1945, she moved to Columbus to work at Lazarus and then finally moved back to Mount Vernon and worked for Curfman Heating for a few year.
She married Fritz Jacobs in October 1952 and was a homemaker. Doris enjoyed bowling for 25 years and took up golf in the early 1960’s and was in several leagues. She was active in the Irish Hills Women’s Golf League until she was 90.
Over the years, she was in several euchre clubs and due to the kindness of friends was able to participate in two euchre clubs as recently as last month. Doris was active in the Ladies Activity group at the Elks Club and the Republican Women’s organization until the last few years.
Most recently, Doris lived at The Hamilton at Eastern Star where she enjoyed bingo, crafts and the company of the other residents as well as the staff.
Doris is survived by her son, Barry (Jewel) Jacobs of Mount Vernon; her daughter, Jennifer (Chokri) Drissi of Annapolis, Maryland; two grandsons, Joel (Desiree) Jacobs of Gambier and Jesse (Gabby) Jacobs of Howard; along with three great-grandchildren, Kinslee, Jameson and Paisley Jacobs.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fritz Jacobs in 2008.
Friends may call on Tuesday, June 13th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Lasater Funeral Home, 11337 Upper Gilchrist Rd. in Mount Vernon where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
